JESSE LEE’S GIVING TREE IN TIME OF COVID19
SOME CHANGES BUT MEANING REMAINS THE SAME
As you all know, we have had to adjust our daily lives due to Covid-19, and our Giving Tree is no exception. This year, to keep our church members safe, we will not be putting up our Christmas Tree in Bennet Hall. To keep it simple, we are collecting donations only for Golden Hill UMC of Bridgeport, and we are foregoing donations to Bishop Wicke and Heifer International. At the request of Golden Hill UMC, we will be asking church members to make cash or check offerings in whatever amount feels comfortable to you, so that we can purchase Target Gift cards for the children and families of Golden Hill UMC.
To keep Jesse Lee’s children involved, we will be supplying large glass jars that each child can take home and decorate in a Christmas theme. The children can paint or glue decorations onto the jars or whatever the child’s imagination can conjure. We will have jars available, beginning Sunday, November 1, 2020. Children will take the jars home and return them the following Sunday, November 8, 2020. All jars will be placed in the back hallway by the collection plates and provide church members five weeks to place donations (cash or check – please note Giving Tree on check memo line) in the jars. The final day for donations is Sunday, December 6. We will deliver the Target Gift cards to Golden Hill UMC by December 10.
The hope is that with this new plan for the Giving Tree, we are maintaining our church outreach to help out those in need and uplift their spirits at the holiday season while at the same time keeping everyone safe.
